Ys and yes. I have had a recurring donation to the Biden campaign for months now. I also have recurring donations to several PACs that are focused on GOTV (like Stacey Abrams's Fair Fight), supporting women candidates (like Kirsten Gillibrand's Off the Sidelines) and funding other associated causes I support (like Hillary Clinton's Onward PAC).

Thank you. I will save my focus for that which I can control, and where I can be supportive. Yes, I am concerned. But it is a waste of time to dwell and fear the worst. I'd rather focus on where I can be constructive.

I am going to vote against Trump and MAGA Republicans, which means voting Democratic in Arizona, except for one or two Republicans I know and trust. I don't care who the D's make president, s/he has my vote. I am going to study the judges who are up for retention carefully, and vote a couple of them out. I am going to stay away from X. I am a classical liberal.

Oh, yes, leaving X has made it infinitely easier to not get dragged down rat holes!!

Thank you for this, and thank you for permission to ignore things that will take me down a rabbit hole.

I heartily agree, Elisa. I'm voting blue all the way down the line. I think we may be getting too fearful, too soon, and there is ample social media content to push us into that. But I also think a good many GOP voters are seeing the writing on the wall, also. We should all do what we can, with the tools we have. Without rancor, if possible. I refuse to debate or argue this anywhere, other than with Tom. This is what I'm doing and if anyone asks, yes, I'm doing it to save Democracy and because Biden has proven himself to be a good president.

So many of my friends talk about having a level of PTSD to events of the last 10 years. And we know that social media algorithms push moral outrage for engagement which as exponentially amplified a fringe. So we hide from the news cycle. I have been trying to break down for myself how to stay informed while not further feeling worse by doing so. The science says that if we consume news WITHOUT the comments, we are more stable/happier. So I am thinking about how to use AI to help me consume safely.

I think the PTSD-like effect is real.

As for news: I have developed a set of resources I go to look up data and information. None of them is a mainstream for-profit media outlet. I will scan headlines from traditional media because I want to stay aware of how they are trying to drive the narrative…which they are…but I rarely dig deep on their analysis.
